ROOM SIMULATIONS

CFD · OpenFOAM · one room, one change

The air in your room, solved.

We simulate the actual physics of air in ordinary rooms: where the cold from the AC lands, what leaves the oven when the door opens, how fast a shut bedroom fills with CO2. The same room twice, one thing changed, and the verdict the numbers give. For HVAC manufacturers and brands, we run the same comparison on your product.

THE FAN FIGHT

A viewer's argument with their father, sent in the comments: with the AC on, should the floor fan point up or at the sofa? The numbers said both were right.

How it works

Each episode is a real simulation run, not an animation. Every number on screen comes out of the solver.

  1. You send the room

Dimensions, what heats or cools it, and the question you are arguing about at home. A floor plan or a photo helps.

  2. We check the question

Before anything is solved we check that a simulation can answer it honestly. If it can't, we say so and you pay nothing.

  3. We solve both versions

OpenFOAM on a cluster, about an hour and a half per run, then a 15 second reel with the numbers. Typical turnaround is two to three days.

For brands and HVAC companies

Air conditioners, fans, heaters, ventilation, anything that moves air in a room. We show what your product does to the air around a person, next to the alternative, with numbers from the solver. Viewers sending their own room for a possible episode pay nothing.

The physics is not for sale. If the simulation says your product does not help, you hear it before anything is published, and the result is not changed.

What a simulation can and can't tell you

Our runs are 2D sections through the room: a slice, not the whole volume. That is what makes them fast enough to do daily, and it has limits we state in every caption.

Answers well

  • A heat or cold source inside a closed roomAir conditioners, heaters, ovens, a car in the sun, a tent, a shower. Where the warm or cold air goes and what it does at your bed or your face.
  • One change, comparedVanes up or down, fan here or there, door open or shut. The same room twice is where the method is strongest.
  • Build-up over timeCO2 in a shut bedroom, steam in a bathroom, heat in a parked car.

Overstates or can't answer

  • Large openings to another spaceIn a slice, a door fills the whole width of the section, so the exchange through big openings comes out several times too strong. A window works; a front door to winter does not.
  • How far a jet carries heatA flat jet in a slice does not mix sideways, so a hair dryer or an iron stays hot far too far from the nozzle.
  • Plume strengthA rising plume is stronger in a slice than in 3D: above an opened oven door we measured 100 °C in 2D and 24 °C in a full 3D run. The mechanism holds; the magnitude needs 3D.
  • Tiny differencesWhen two versions differ by less than about half a degree, we call it a draw, not a result.
